Dhaka Metro Rail

The Dhaka Metro Rail is a modern rapid transit system under construction in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Initiated in 2016, the project aims to address the city’s severe traffic congestion and air pollution, with completion expected by 2023. Spanning 21.26 kilometers and featuring 17 stations, the metro rail is designed to offer reliable transportation for the city’s growing population.

Dhaka has long struggled with gridlocked roads and rising pollution due to rapid urbanization and economic growth. The metro rail is set to alleviate these issues by providing an efficient, eco-friendly alternative. The project, costing an estimated $2.8 billion, is funded by the Government of Bangladesh with support from development partners like the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The metro system will include both elevated and underground sections, capable of transporting up to 60,000 passengers per hour. While fare details are yet to be announced, they are expected to be affordable for the general public. Beyond improved mobility, the project will create jobs during and after construction, driving economic growth and development.

The Dhaka Metro Rail promises to transform Dhaka into a more livable city by reducing traffic, curbing pollution, and providing a safe, reliable, and modern transportation option for all.
